Police said on Saturday that four people have been arrested for allegedly attacking a conductor of the state -owned Transport Corporation bus for not responding to a passenger in Marathi.

He said that the incident took place on Friday on the outskirts of the city headquarters of Belagavi, Maharashtra border.

Police said the conductor has also been booked under the POCSO Act.

With tears in his eyes, 51 -year -old conductor Mahadevappa Mallappa Hookakeri told reporters on Friday that a woman in a bus was spoke in Marathi with her male partner in Sulebhavi village in Marathi. Hukri said that he told him that he did not know Marathi and asked him to speak in Kannada.

The conductor said, “When I said that I do not know Marathi, the girl abused me saying that I should learn Marathi. Suddenly a large number of people gathered and attacked my head and the whole body,” The conductor Said.

The injured bus conductor was admitted to Belgavi Institute of Medical Sciences, police said they suffered minor injuries and were out of danger.

“A case was registered and we have arrested four people in connection with the attack on the conductor and based on a counter complaint filed by a 14 -year -old girl, a case against the conductor under the safety of children from sexual offenses It was recorded ((POCSO) allegedly used the Act, “said a senior police officer to use derogatory remarks against him.

He said, “No arrests have been made yet regarding the POCSO Act case. We need to investigate, and look at the allegations and further action will be taken accordingly,” he said.

Belgavi has a sufficient Marathi-speaking population and one of them is demanding the merger of the district with Maharashtra, which opposes the Kannada population living there by the state as well as the Kannada population.
