The outbreak of Kawasaki Norovirus infections is motivating hospital authorities in Britain to notice immediate notice, asking people to limit travels in the hospital to avoid excessive infection. The extremely infectious virus, also known as the “Winter Vomiting Bug”, resulted in a sharp increase in cases, suddenly and with severe vomiting and diarrhea. Reports suggest that during the first seven weeks of 2025 alone, 400 cases were reported, and public health officials are increasing the alarm as the new GII.17 version continues to spread.
The British Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has indicated growing anxiety, stating that increasing activity in healthcare centers is putting heavy pressure on the already extended winter health system. This increase in Norovirus disease is not limited to the UK as a similar increase has been observed in the United States, which suggests a potential wide international spread of the virus. Public health officials are emphasizing strict hygiene measures, frequent handwashing and the need to remain at home when they are ill to prevent the spread of virus.

An HSE spokesperson told Sun: “During the winter 2024–2025, the level of Norovirus activity in the Northern Hemisphere has increased.
“This increase is due to an emerging Norovirus variant – GII.17.
“Because it is a new version of Norovirus, people will only have partial immunity, which will increase the chances of the disease.
“In early December 2024, Ireland saw an increase in Norovirus affairs and outbreaks. UK, Europe and other countries of America have also seen similar growth.”
