Aviation watchdog DGCA has asked airlines to rationalize airfares for flights to Prayagraj amid concerns over excess air tickets on this route in view of the Maha Kumbh.

Airlines including SpiceJet are operating more flights to Prayagraj.

To meet the growing demand for air travel, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved 81 additional flights in January, increasing air connectivity to Prayagraj from across the country to 132 flights.

In a post on X on Saturday, the regulator said that in view of the potential surge in demand, airlines have been urged to increase further capacity by adding flights and rationalizing fares.

In this regard, DGCA officials held a meeting with airline representatives on January 23.

With more people traveling for the Maha Kumbh, bookings for flights to Prayagraj as well as airfares have increased manifold, with air ticket prices for Delhi-Prayagraj flights rising by 21 per cent, according to travel portal An earlier analysis by Ixigo revealed. month.
