The foul smell of rotten eggs is often an indication that sulfur is working. Sulfur is a major ingredient in protein such as keratin, which makes hair and nails hard, and is used to make fertilizer in agriculture. Researchers at the UCD Conway Institute at University College Dublin have shown for the first time that yeast, Candida parapsilosis, destroys and controls sulfur metabolism in an unusual way.
