Mahindra will continue the fight with IndiGo over the trademark dispute.
New Delhi. Mahindra & Mahindra (Mahindra LTD) has decided to change the name of its new electric SUV ‘Be 6e’ to ‘Be 6′. Mahindra has said that it will continue the legal battle against Indigo Airlines’ parent company Interglob Aviation regarding the name of electric SUV. The interglobe claims that ‘6E’ is the design of its airline and it has been a part of his identity for the last 18 years.
Mahindra has said in a statement that her brand name is ‘Be 6e’, not only ‘6e’, which is completely different from Indigo’s trademark. The car manufacturer also said that his product and design is completely different from the airline sector and there is no possibility of any kind of confusion. Mahindra insisted that the trademark application she has given is completely for separate industries and products.
Where did the matter start?
On 3 December 2024, Interglobe Aviation filed a case against Mahindra in the Delhi High Court. He claims that the use of Mahindra’s new electric SUV BE 6E is a violation of his trademark ‘6e’. The airline claimed that ‘6E’ is an integral part of his identity for the last 18 years. It is a registered trademark, which is widely recognized. The matter will go to court on 9 December for hearing.
The interglob said, “The unauthorized use of ‘6e’ in any form is a violation of the reputation and identity of our brand. We will take all possible steps to keep our intellectual property and brand safe. “
IndiGo also got involved in trademark dispute
Significantly, IndiGo itself has faced a trademark dispute. Tata Motors objected to the use of Indigo. Tata named its sedan car ‘IndiGo’ in 2002, while Interglobe Aviation started its first flight in IndiGo in 2006.
Mahindra’s trend
Mahindra regretted this dispute and said that two big Indian companies should not get entangled in such unnecessary disputes. Mahindra said that we have decided to rename our product to ‘Be 6’ so that the dispute can be abolished and extended forward. ”
Mahindra’s new electric SUV is Be 6e
Mahindra launched its first “Electric Origin” SUV ‘Be 6E’ and ‘XEV 9E’ on 26 November 2024. Just a day before this, i.e. on 25 November, the trademark registrar accepted the name ‘Be 6E’ for registration. If this name is registered, Mahindra will get the right to use the name ‘Be 6e’.
Mahindra has expressed hope that this dispute will end soon and Indian companies will encourage each other’s progress.
