What is ITR?

How to check my income tax refund status
Here is a step-by-step guide to check your IT refund status:
step 1. Open the official e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department.

On the NSDL website, enter your pan, assessment year and captcha code. It will show if your refund is on your way. This is considered an easy and simple method, especially for those who do not have access to the e-filing portal.

Different types of ITR status:
According to the official website of the IT department, these are different types of ITR status:
- Presented and pending for e-satyapan/verification.

- Successfully e-satyapit/verified.

- Faulty
This situation appears when the IT department notices some faults in the returns filed. This may arise due to lack of required information required under law or some anomalies.
In such cases, taxpayers receive notice under Section 139 (9) and they need to fix the defect within a specified time limit from the date of receiving notice. If people fail to respond to the defective return position, their ITR is considered invalid and not taken for processing.
