Officials said six people lost their lives and three others on Sunday faced injuries after a confrontation between an SUV and a truck between a truck under the boundary of Hathinala police station.
The accident occurred on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar state highway around 7:30 am when a truck crossed the divider, entered the opposite lane and hit the head with a Hyundai buyer car from Chhattisgarh to Robertsganj.
According to Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena, the deceased consists of four residents, truck drivers and drivers of another vehicle crossing the road.
Among the identified victims are Sanullah Khalifa (40), Ramanujganj, Chhattisgarh, and Ravi Mishra (45) of Medical College Ambikpur, Chhattisgarh. Another victim, Umashankar Patel, son of late Banarasi Patel, was a truck driver from Edalhat, Mirzapur. The identity of three other deceased is unknown.
The injured include two women and a person, who were rushed to the district hospital by police teams of Hatinala and Dudhi police stations. Given the seriousness of their injuries, he is being sent to a high medical center.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been sent to Dudhdi Morchari.
Senior police officers inspected the accident site and an inquiry is going on to determine the exact reason in the lane contrasting the deviation of the truck.
