Mumbai suburban railway soon to receive new-design trains: Ashwini Vaishnav

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Monday that the Mumbai suburban railways will soon get new-design trains to reduce better facilities and congestion for passenger comfort.

Ashwini Vaishnav, while addressing a press conference through a video link from New Delhi, said, “A plan for new design trains will be announced soon on the Mumbai suburban network.”

New design trains will have better features and accelerations, and most importantly given more oxygen material inside trains, he said that indicating better suspension for coaches in a better ventilation system and for the comfort of passengers Said giving.

The Railway Minister said that in addition to 3,000 services operated daily, about 10 percent more or about 300 local train services will be introduced in stages after the completion of the ongoing infrastructure projects.

“New tracks of about 300 km will be placed in the city,” he said.

He said that there are railway projects worth Rs 16,400 crore in various stages of completion of Mumbai on Central Railway and Western Railway.

Vaishnav said that the current time difference between the two moving local trains is 180 seconds, which will be brought down to 150 seconds to reduce overdose and to operate more services and later by 120 seconds.

Shri Vaishnav said, “A record allocation of Rs 23,778 crore has been done in the Union Budget 2025-26 for Railways in Maharashtra, which is 20 times more than the budgetary allocation under UPA governments.”

He said that Maharashtra has signed a tripartite agreement with the Central Government and the RBI to ensure the smooth cash flow and the rapid completion of railway projects.
