This decision was officially taken on 13 January 2025 through a notification from the State Home Department.
The pension is especially for Odisha individuals who were detained under the maintenance of the Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency.
The government has established state-level and district-level committees to identify eligible beneficiaries.
During the Emergency, hundreds of persons were imprisoned across India, which ran from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977. The Odisha government is now focusing on ensuring these individuals to get the support they deserve.
Application process
Eligible persons who want to apply for pension will have to submit an application to the Collector and District Magistrate. The application should include documents supporting their custody during the Emergency, the names of three co-integration, and an affidavit confirming their imprisonment under MISA.
Statements from Odisha CM
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that pension and benefits were announced in response to the demands captured during the Emergency.
He also confirmed that health insurance and railway benefits would be included.
