Over the years, digital frauds that target insurance customers have become prevalent. Fraudsters create fake applications and websites that mimic valid insurers, tricks users to share sensitive information or pay unauthorized institutions.

These scams often include:

Fake Payment Portal: Fraudsters create apps that meet the digital platforms of LIC and request users to enter policy details and pay premium, which are then redirected to fraud accounts.

Fishing scam: Customers receive fake email or SMS messages, which have links to fake license websites, inspired them to enter login credentials and financial statements.

Immunization call: Scammers who submit as insurance representative calls customers, offer fake discounts or bonus plans, and demand online payment.

How can policy holders be safe

To avoid being a victim of such fraud, customers must take the following precautions:

Verify digital platforms: Always ensure that transactions are done through official channels.

Check URL and apps: Before entering any details, cross the URL to confirm that it belongs to the official domain. Download mobile applications only from reliable sources like Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Beware of unwanted communication: Do not answer calls, emails or messages from unknown sources.

Safe personal information: Never share sensitive policy details, OTP or bank credentials with anyone claiming to be an officer.

Report suspicious activity: If you come under any fraud app or transaction, report them to customer care and relevant cybercrime officers.
