Three Chief Ministers, with a 52-day term: when BJP last ruled Delhi




New Delhi:

The BJP will have a Chief Minister in Delhi, about three decades after the prestigious hard-fasting battle. The ruling party snatched the fort from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal, who ruled the national capital for nearly 12 years. Of the 70 assembly seats, the BJP managed to win the 48 – beyond the 48 -majority mark, while the AAP managed to win 22 seats. The Congress failed to open its account again.

The last time a Chief Minister in Delhi was about 27 years ago in BJP. Nevertheless, the capital saw three separate chief ministers within a gap of five years – between 1993 and 1998. Let’s take a look at the old small tenure of the BJP:

In 1993, BJP’s Madan Lal Khurana, known as the “lion of Delhi” (lion of Delhi), serve Delhi after being restored through the 69th Constitution Amendment Act, 1991 of the State Legislative Assembly. The first Chief Minister was. The party won 49. 70 assembly seats, while Congress got 14 seats. However, in 1995, Shri Khurana’s name appeared in the notorious hawala scam. Amid allegations of increasing pressure and corruption, he resigned within 27 months.

Shri Khurana’s resignation paved the way for BJP’s Sahib Singh Verma – Parvesh Verma’s father who defeated Mr. Kejriwal in this election. After a brief power struggle between Mr. Verma and Shri Khurana, the then BJP Chief Minister of the then -Second faced large -scale criticism at onion prices – allegedly to Rs 60 per kg in 1998. In the meantime, Mr. Verma was left from the Chief Minister. Status after 31 months.

Then the third BJP Chief Minister Sushma came to Swaraj – Delhi’s first female leader. His term lasted for 52 days before the assembly elections.

In the 1998 assembly elections, the Congress came to power as the Chief Minister with Sheila Dixit, who ruled the national capital for 15 years. Then he was defeated by Mr. Kejriwal in 2013.

In the 2013 assembly elections, the BJP, the single-big party, reduced 31 seats, five seats in a 70-member house with the required majority. AAP and Congress, with 28 and eight seats, later shaken hands to form a government but it lasted only for 49 days. Subsequently, a President’s rule was imposed in the national capital.

In 2015, AAP won 67 out of 70 seats in the assembly elections. The BJP managed to win three seats, while the Congress could not open its account. In 2020, AAP again performed another spectacular performance by winning 62 out of 70 assembly seats. The BJP improved its tally to win 8 seats, while the Congress – who ruled the national capital between 1998 and 2013 – did not get any seat.

Now, after about 12 years, things were completed for Mr. Kejriwal as he was defeated by more than 4,000 votes by BJP’s Parvesh Verma.

After the BJP’s victory in Delhi on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the party employees at the office headquarters in the national capital. Thanking the people of Delhi, PM Modi said, “Delhi has given us love wholeheartedly and I once again assure people that we will double the love as development.”

“Those who thought that they have now seen their truth in the mirror. The people of Delhi have made it clear that the right owners of Delhi are ‘people of Delhi’. The mandate of Delhi has made it clear that for corruption There is no place, and lies in politics.
