YouTube Might Launch a ‘Premium Lite’ Plan Soon, But There’s a Catch

YouTube is preparing to launch a cheaper version of its advertising YouTube premium membership, according to a report, which may provide users access to video streaming with advertisements on certain types of content. The new plan can be called YouTube premium light, and is expected to be introduced in four countries after being tested for several months. The alphabet -owned videos and music streaming platforms have so far announced a plan to roll an affordable YouTube premium plan, or how much it can cost.

YouTube premium light customers can see ads in music videos

Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with YouTube plans Reports The firm is planning a cheap version of the YouTube premium that will soon be launched in Australia, Germany, Thailand and the US. The US expects a ‘YouTube premium light’ membership costing less than $ 13.99 (about Rs 1,200) per month, which is the cost of the company’s advertising scheme.

However, there is no word on how much the cost of the YouTube premium light scheme can be, the report states that the customers who choose for it will watch advertisements while watching music videos on the platform. As a result, users who want to see other types of videos on the platform cannot see advertisements until they stream music video.

According to the report, the new plan can benefit users who rely on YouTube to watch guides or informative videos, but not music videos. These users cannot see ads on YouTube, if they avoid listening to music on streaming platforms. However, customers who want to watch music videos without any advertisement will have to subscribe to YouTube premium.

An official announcement about the launch of cheap schemes is still awaited, but the representative of a company effectively confirmed that a new plan with “most video advertising” was in several markets. The spokesperson told Bloomberg, “As part of our commitment to provide more options and flexibility to our users, we are testing a new YouTube premium offer with most videos in many of our markets.”

It is not currently clear that (or when) the company also intends to roll the YouTube premium light in other areas including India. Currently, the price of YouTube premium is Rs. 149 per month (a student scheme is also available Rs 99), while the price of the premium family scheme is Rs. 299 a month. Users can also choose a YouTube music premium membership option, priced at Rs. 119 per month.
