A Nepali female student allegedly died of suicide at an Odisha University and the college administration ordered the Nepali students to vacate the hostel, 159 students have returned to the country through Raxul Seema, an official said.
Assistant Chief District Officer, Parsa, Suman Kumar Karki said that 159 Nepali students reached home from Raxul border point by Thursday evening.
In the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, a third -year -old B Tech (Computer Science) student 20 -year -old, 20, Prakiti Lamsal allegedly died of suicide in his hostel room on 16 February, causing suicide in the campus. There was unrest.
There are about 1,000 Nepali students studying in Kiit, Odisha.
Talking to the media at the reporters club in Kathmandu, a group of students returning to Nepal said they were subject to “inhuman treatment” in KIIT after the death of a Nepali female student at college hostel.
The students said, “After the mysterious death of Prakrit Lamsal, we were abused and got inhuman treatment,” the students said.
He said, “We were beaten by the security guards in the presence of university teachers and other employees and immediately asked to vacate the hostel,” he said.
The students said that they do not feel safe to return to college despite assurances given by the university administration.
“Despite the assurance given by the college, there was no safe and favorable environment for the study,” he said.
He said that the death of Prakrit Lamsal should be properly investigated and the victim students should get justice.
On Thursday, External Affairs Minister Arzu Rana Deuba said that the government has resolved the issue arising out of the death of a Nepali female student through diplomatic channels.
Deuba addressed the media at Tribhuvan International Airport on her arrival from Oman, where she went to attend the 8th Indian Ocean Summit, said, “The Nepal government through diplomatic channels by Nepal The problem around the student’s death has been solved. Talked to and ensured that a fair investigation is done in the death of a female student and Nepali students are made a safe environment to start their hostels.
Following the initiative by Nepal’s Foreign Ministry, the Odisha government has taken the issue seriously and a high-level inquiry committee has also been formed.
“After our response, the college has apologized for the incident and took action against its employees who abuse the Nepali students,” she said.
Meanwhile, a candle lighting march was demanded for justice for Prakrit Lamsal.
Similarly, a group of students, asking for justice, organized a protest rally at Bhairahwa in Rupandehi, home district of Prakrit Lamsal.
