While BMC is considering adding an additional exit on Napian Sea Road after months of demands, there are fresh concerns over road quality and execution.

After the video went viral, the Shiv Sena (UBT) has indicated fingers in the previous Eknath Shinde -led government, alleging bias of specific contractors.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also paid attention to the issue after the video, in which Haji Ali had a depiction of poor patchwork repair on the stretch northwards, went viral on X. The Principal Secretary of the PMO removed the concerns for the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray strongly criticized the execution of the project on X. “Patchwork done on the coastal road, from Haji Ali to Worli, is a striking example of mismanagement. Our government was in power, coastal road, coastal road, on coastal road, coastal road. Done, and today, the bicycle tracks and parks must have been completely operational and will be open to the public, “he said.

A 10-lane road between Marine Drive and Worli, opened in stages since March 12, 2024, has been used by more than 5 million vehicles so far, with daily average with 18,000 to 20,000, daily average, with 18,000 to 20,000, .

The road extends to 10.58 km and costs around Rs 14,000 crore. The project includes embankment roads, bridges and elevated classes, which have interchange in Emerson, Haji Ali and Worli. A major attraction of the project is its two separate underground twin tunnels, each 2 km long, designed to facilitate traffic between South and North Mumbai.

The tunnels have six lanes, while other sections of the road have eight lanes.
