Officials said that a driver from Himachal Pradesh was killed and 17 pilgrims were injured when a bus returning from Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine was dropped from the road and took a dip in a 30 -feet gorge near Jammu on Saturday evening, Officials said.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the accident and praised the rescue teams and officials for their quick and commendable efforts.
Officials said the accident occurred near Manda, about eight kilometers from the Jammu bus stand, in the registration number of the bus, the UK -07PA -5640.
He said that a rescue operation was started after losing control by the driver while talking on a curve and the bus fell into the gorge.
Officials said all 17 injured passengers were rescued and taken to the Government Medical College Hospital and their condition was called “stable”.
However, the driver of the bus died on the spot and later his body was recovered from the scene after a loud attempt by a joint party, state disaster response force (SDRF), traffic police and emergency service personnel after a loud attempt. . Two hours, officials said.
He said that the victim was identified as Rakesh. His body was transferred to GMC Hospital Morchari for post -mortem.
Officials said the injured pilgrims are from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and also wished the injured to recover rapidly.
“Deeply saddened by bus accident in Manda, took pilgrims from Katra to Delhi. My heartfelt condolences to the driver’s family who lost his life in this tragic incident.
“Thankfully, all the injured passengers are stable and receiving medical care. Wishing them a fast recovery.
Abdullah wrote on X, “The rescue teams and officials are grateful to their quick and commendable efforts. My office is in touch with the officials concerned.”
