Karnataka Rakshaan Vedic leaders and workers on Tuesday staged a protest against the ongoing tension between pro-Kawada and Marathi pro-Marathi groups in Belagavi.
On 22 February, a KSRTC bus conductor in Belagavi was allegedly beaten for not speaking in Marathi.

DCP Belgavi, Rohan Jagdish said, “Praveen Shetty (Leader of Karnataka Rakshan Vedic) has been taken into preventive custody to maintain law and order and in public interest. The protest was being held in the middle of a busy road. “
Earlier on Monday, Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy visited Belgavi Bims Hospital and inquired about the health of bus conductor Mahadevappa Hukkeri, who was attacked after a dispute over language in Belgavi.
Mahadevappa Hukkeri has been receiving treatment at Belgavi Bims Hospital for the last three days.
The bus driver of the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) and Mahadevappa Hukakeri was allegedly attacked by a group of youth -speaking youths near Sulebhavi at around 12:30 pm on Friday in Marathi.
Minister Ramalinga Reddy said, “Not only the Karnataka Road Transport Department, everyone is in support of the bus conductor. The POCSO case registered by the police against the bus conductor is fake.”
So far, 5 accused have been arrested in connection with the attack.

According to officials, the incident took place on 21 February near Sulebhavi at around 12:30 pm. A boy and a girl who boarded a semi-urban CBT-Sulebhavi bus, allegedly threatened the conductor as he was not able to speak in Marathi. He called his colleagues who then thrashed the conductor. The Belagavi police said they had received a complaint from the girl’s side, who alleged that the conductor made indecent remarks towards her.
