Egg cells require stamina: they are formed in a woman’s body before birth and possibly one day to stay on the standby for decades to be fertilized one day. But as they are of age, they accumulate more and more DNA damage. So far, it is not clear why the repair mechanisms of the cell do not fix the damage.
