Vegetarian Thali prices reduction was inspired by 28% fall in tomato prices, which fell 32/kg 23/kg. Additionally, the price of LPG was seen by 11%, causing a fall. 903 per 14.2 kg cylinder 803. However, the increase in prices of onion (11%), potatoes (16%), and vegetable oils (18%) partially offset these cuts.
Non-vegetarian thalis expensive in February
In contrast, the cost of a non-vegetarian plate increased due to a 15% increase in the price of broiler chicken. This increase was largely due to low base last year when prices were low due to additional supply. Additionally, the price of maize, a major component in the poultry feed, increased by 6%, which increased the cost.
On a monthly basis, the prices of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis declined by about 5% in February 2025. It is due to low prices of major ingredients such as onions, potatoes, and tomatoes, as well as a decrease in brooler prices, mainly due to low demand after intimidating a bird flu in southern India.
Overall, while the cost of preparing a vegetarian plate fell slightly on the basis of year-on-year, the price of non-vegetarian plate saw an increase due to the cost of rising chicken.
