For Macos, Chatgpt is getting a new feature that will make it easier to get coding assistance for software developers. Declared last week, the new Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature allows Openai Chatbot to work with the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and edit the code in the user’s favorite coding tools. This cannot spend time manually to transfer the code and make the process more comfortable. Openai has a new feature a few months after expanding the Canvas feature in the Mac version of Catgpt.

Till now, it was difficult to get coding assistance from the Macos Desktop app of Chatgpt. While the AI ââcan take reference from the existing codebase of the user with screenshot feature and create changes in the code based on the text signals provided by the user, transferring edited code was a cumbersome process.
This was because there was no automatic workflow to transfer the code to IDES. As a result, users only have to copy and paste the code manually to complete the changed parts, and no repeated lines are accidentally affixed. The manual nature of the work also hurts it with errors, fixing that would take extra time.
However, with the update of the previous week, the MACOS users can now edit the code and apply changes in the user’s codebase directly. The functionality works with Xcode, vs. code and jetbrain, but it is not clear whether other growth environment is supported.
Currently, this feature is being rolled out for Chattgpt Pro, Plus, and team customers. The company said that enterprise and EDU users will get it next week with those at the free level of chatbot.
In particular, this capacity is being extended through Openai’s “Working With Work” capacity that was first released in beta in November 2024. It is an agent function that allows chatgpt to reach some apps on the device and works on behalf of the user. This functionality was already introduced by existing AI platforms such as Karsar and Githib Copilot.
In January, the AI ââfirm expanded the canvas for the chatgpt for Macos. The sandbox-style pop-up window allows users to work with a chatbot to edit inline in projects related to coding or creative writing. Openai has also upgraded the feature with the support of the O1 AI model.
