Washington:
The Trump administration has abolished $ 20 billion in funding for greenhouse gas reduction projects, with climate advocates and Democrats say illegally seizing the funds allocated for clean energy and transport for the disadvantaged communities.
Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin promoted its campaign to return the money from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which the Congress applied for kick-start projects with the aim of curbing pollution under the Biden administration.
In a late statement on Tuesday, the EPA stated that it had returned the funds, stating that the program did not align with the priorities of the agency and cited concerns with potential fraud, waste, and misuse, although it did not give any details.
The US Department of Justice and FBI are reviewing the program, the couple.
The EPA stated that it would work to use funds “with extended control” within the law, but not especially what it would do with money.
“EPA would be an extraordinary steward of dollar dedicated to our main mission to protect human health and environment, not a trivial spander named after ‘Climate Equity’,” said Zeldin.
The Congress applied $ 20 billion through the Democratic President Joe Biden through the reduction in inflation of 2022. Under its successor, Republican Donald Trump, the EPA has demanded freezing the money related to climate change and environmental justice amid legal challenges.
Over the weekend, Climate United Fund AdvocC Group filed a lawsuit to withdraw the fund on EPA and Citigroup’s Citibank and to break that it is called a legislatively binding constitutional agreement as a prizeman, saying that these and seven other recipients are unable to reach the money.
