Punjab speaker flags out errors in NCERT’s Punjabi textbook, urges immediate amendment – CNBC TV18

Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan has written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which highlights several errors in a Punjabi textbook published by NCERT.

In his letter, Sandhawan indicated important spelling mistakes and factual impurities in the book ‘Punjabi Primer’, designed for children and adult literacy programs of Balvatika/Anganwadi-level.

Such fundamental mistakes not only mislead young learners, but also reduce the effectiveness of literacy initiative for adults, they said in a statement.

He emphasized the requirement of educational materials, especially basic learning books to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and authenticity.

Sandhawan urged the minister to start immediate reviews and amendments of the textbook by qualified Punjabi linguistic experts and scholars to ensure the correct and reliable material.

He also emphasized the need for a strict editorial and quality-information process for all future publications by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to prevent such errors.

He said that ensuring error-free teaching materials, is important for the success of original education and literacy programs.
