Pentagon aims to cut 60,000 civilian jobs: About all – CNBC tv18

The Defense Department is planning to reduce the federal workforce of the Trump administration and cut down about 50,000 to 60,000 civilian jobs as part of a comprehensive effort to eliminate American agencies. Associated Press reported that less than 21,000 workers who voluntarily choose to leave, will leave in the coming months, according to a senior defense officer, the Associated Press reported.

The target is part of a large plan to cut from 5% to 8% of the civil workforce, which currently exceeds 900,000. To achieve this, Pentagon plans to slash around 6,000 posts per month, which do not replace the workers who leave. The move has expressed concern that service members can be tapped to fill the vacant civil jobs by hiring freeze.

The officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that the Defense Secretary PT Hegaseth wanted to guarantee that the deduction did not hurt military readiness. Officials assuming that ‘some’ would be one of the military giant citizens, but refused to guess how many, it could be thousands.

ABC News reported, “The number seems more, but I will focus on percentage, the decrease of 5% to 8% is not a rigid and Hegseth believes that our resources are allocated in the right direction, can be done without negatively affecting the readiness.”

The Defense Department is using three ways to reduce its workforce – including voluntary resignation, firing for the workers under firing and leaving the employees. The official said that the military services and the Pentagon officials are reviewing the personnel based on the case-case to ensure that the deduction does not affect the important national security jobs.

The officials refused to say how many citizens of the Defense Department wanted voluntary retirement options, but admitted that more and more requested. According to the defense officer, the ‘vast majority’ was allowed, but in some cases, individuals were denied national security reasons or to prevent many people from leaving an office.

He said that Hegseth has also approved the secretaries of military branches and the personnel of the Defense Department have given the right to exemption in employment freeze. The official further stated that every year, an average of 70,000 citizens are hired, or about 6,000 every month, saying that it is not clear how many of those 70,000 will be removed.

The department also began to abolish 5,400 priest civilian employees, which has now been stopped by a temporary preventive order issued by a federal judge.

The official said that 5,400 probationary employees were not selected to terminate “visually based on the time he was hired.” These employees were “weakly documented in their job tasks and or the records were misconduct.”

It is uncertain whether all 5,400 probationary employees are scheduled to end in those categories. “The fact is that a person was a probationary employee, it did not mean that he was going to be subject to removal,” he said.

“We are confident that we can absorb those removal without any obstruction to the ability to continue the mission, and so how we may be convinced that we do not need to worry about any resulting impact on the uniformed force,” the official said.
