The announcement was made on 9 April in the 13th UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue held at the London Stock Exchange, which was attended by prominent leaders including UK Chancellor Rhel Reeves, Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey and Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sithraman.
The new branch complex in Gujarat has received in-primary approval from the International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA). The University of Coventry initially plans to launch two graduate programs – BSc honor in international business management and BSc honor in trade and finance – with scope to expand the course offerings over time.
Professor John Latham, Vice Chancellor and CEO of the University group of Coventry, said the global strategy of the university and the massive “trust of large -scale trust” in the UK higher education. “In India, the opportunity for the next generation learners to create a real difference is what we have understood with both hands,” he said.
The Gift City Campus is involved in the growing presence of the Coventry University Group in India after the launch of its India hub in New Delhi earlier this year. It also contributes to a wide 1 billion pound investment by participants in the global complexes of Coventry in the last five years, including places in Egypt, Morocco, China, Kazakhstan and Singapore.
India’s British High Commissioner Lindi Cameron CB OBE welcomed the move, highlighting its role in deepening the UK-India education partnership. “It is very good to see the University of Covantry coming to Gift City, an important global financial center,” he said. “This will help more Indian students to reach British education close to home.”
For India, the British Council Director Alison Barrett MBE described the announcement as a “historic achievement”, aligning with India’s National Education Policy 2020. “Thousands of students will benefit from high quality education that can offer the university,” he said.
IFSCA President Mr. K.K. Rajraman called Vikas a “important milestone” for the gift city and a will for the growing UK-India partnership. He said that the campus will contribute to India’s developed education ecosystem by offering alignment programs along with the demands of the market and job market.
