Globally, PC shipments in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024 totaled 60.6 million units, an increase of 1.9 percent from the same quarter in 2023, according to a new report on Wednesday.
According to Gartner, this marks three consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth for the PC market. âLow year-on-year growth, coupled with steady sequential growth, suggests the market is on the right track for recovery.â said Mikako Kitagawa, director analyst at Gartner.
“PC inventories are returning to average levels, with 7.8 percent sequential growth between 1Q24 and 2Q24,” he said.
The PC market in the US saw its highest shipment volumes since the third quarter (Q3) of 2022, with more than 18 million PCs shipped, resulting in growth of 3.4 percent (year-over-year).
âDemand for business PCs also increased gradually, contributing to this growth.
Our current expectation is to see growing demand for business PCs in the US in the second half of 2024, Kitagawa said.
HP maintained the top position in the US PC market based on shipments with 27 percent market share, followed by Dell with 25.2 percent market share.
Additionally, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market declined 2.2 percent (y-o-y) due to a weak China market, which offset growth in mature and emerging APAC.
The report said mid-single digit growth continued in emerging APAC, led by healthy growth in India. Mature APAC also saw a recovery in PC demand, resulting in year-on-year growth for the first time in two years.
