Pakistan Isi Phone Calls: Now anyone’s phone call can be heard in Pakistan. For this, the government has given powers to the intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Imran Khan’s party PTI has expressed protest after ISI got bigger powers. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party leader Omar Ayub Khan said that the government and allies should know that the same action will be taken against their leaders if they are voted out of power.
Efforts to control social media also
Ayub further said that they will approach the courts once the measures they (Government of Pakistan) are implementing come into effect. In Pakistan, this is being seen as part of the government’s efforts to crack down on social media platforms. This is because Pakistan’s main opposition party PTI has increased its activism on social media after getting less space in the media.
Shahbaz Sharif is making different plans
It was said in the notification of the Government of Pakistan that under this power given to the Army and ISI, they can intercept any phone call. The notification was issued after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government formally took a decision at the cabinet level to allow the ISI to trace and record phone calls. The notification states that ISI officers below grade 18 can intercept any call and message and can also trace it. The notification also said that the government will give priority to national security against foreign threats.
Earlier in May, Shehbaz Sharif had approved the draft for amendment in the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016. In this, it was suggested to establish a Digital Rights Protection Authority. According to media reports, the government is doing this to control social media.
