Why is AC not available in Indian trucks? Know what is the reason

New Delhi. You must have often heard that trucks in foreign countries are equipped with many types of facilities. Many such videos keep going viral in which truck drivers are seen driving trucks equipped with AC, TV and fridge. It is also true that truck drivers in western countries are given much better facilities than truck drivers in India, whereas the condition of truck drivers in India is not that good. In India, essential features like AC are not available in trucks. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had also expressed concern on this important issue.

But have you ever wondered why companies in a hot country like India do not make trucks with AC and why AC is considered a luxury feature even today? Actually, there are two big reasons behind companies doing this, let us know.

AC will increase oil consumption
The cost of diesel in transportation determines the prices of goods. Transport companies often try to reduce diesel expenses so that savings can be more. If AC is used in the truck, it will increase the oil cost by 3-4%.

Fuel costs account for 60% of the cost of running a truck. In such a situation, if drivers use AC during long journeys, diesel consumption will increase and the cost of transport companies will increase. Some truck models with AC are also available in the market but their sales are very less.

AC trucks cost more
Trucks with air condition (AC) feature also cost more than ordinary trucks. This is also one of the reasons for low sales of AC trucks. If trucks are not sold, dealer stock starts increasing and companies suffer losses. Due to lack of demand in the market, companies launch only a limited number of AC truck models.
