Lahore: Pakistan, which is surrounded by issues like destitution, poverty, starvation, terrorism and inflation, has now come into the limelight because of a woman. Justice Alia Neelam took oath as the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court on Thursday. The special thing is that Neelam is the first woman of Pakistan to hold the post of Chief Justice of a High Court. Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider Khan has administered the oath of office to him. The first woman Chief Minister of Punjab province, Maryam Nawaz also attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Justice Neelam (57) was ranked third in the seniority order of judges in the Lahore High Court but the Judicial Commission headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa decided to nominate her for the post. As soon as the announcement of Neelam’s appointment as Chief Justice was made, her picture with members of the ruling Sharif family started going viral on social media. Through this, her opponents wanted to indicate that she was associated with the ruling Muslim League (Nawaz).
How was your career?
Justice Neelam was born on 12 November 1966 and obtained LLB degree from Punjab University in 1995. He registered himself as an advocate in 1996. Justice Neelam registered as an advocate in the Supreme Court in 2008. She became a temporary judge of the Lahore High Court in 2013 and was promoted to permanent judge on 16 March 2015. (Language)
