Justice Aalia Neelum: For the first time, a woman judge has taken charge in Pakistan’s Lahore High Court (LHC). Justice Alia Neelam was also sworn in on Thursday. Punjab Governor Salim Haider Khan also congratulated him after administering the oath. Apart from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, many officials including judges, lawyers and government officials were present in this ceremony. The Law Ministry of Pakistan had issued a notification approving the appointment of Justice Alia Neelam as the judge of Lahore High Court as per Article 193 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

According to the report published in Dawn, Justice Neelam was selected third in the seniority list of LHC judges. His swearing-in ceremony was held at Governor Bhavan on Thursday. Earlier in 2018, Justice Saeeda Tahira Safdar has also been appointed Chief Justice of the High Court in Balochistan. In 2021, Justice Ayesha Malik also became the first woman judge to be appointed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. For the first time in the history of Pakistan, a woman is taking oath as a judge in the Lahore High Court.

Soon established himself in constitutional law, white-collar crime, civil, criminal and anti-terrorism law and banking law. He was enrolled as an advocate in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2008. In 2013, he was appointed as an additional judge of Lahore High Court.
