American language experts chose this pronoun as the word of the decade


The pronoun ‘they’ (they) has been chosen as the word of the decade by American language experts. It has achieved this feat by leaving behind words like “climate” and “meme”. Neutral pronouns are such words which do not indicate whether the subject of a sentence is masculine or feminine.

The word ‘de’ has become increasingly used in English by people who identify as neither male nor female. They prefer to be identified by plural neutral pronouns rather than the traditional pronouns of ‘he’ for men or ‘she’ for women.
