New Delhi:
The Center has ordered an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the renewal of the former official residence of East-Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. On February 13, an inquiry was ordered after submitting a report by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
CPWD has been directed to conduct a detailed investigation into the allegations that the building criteria were violated for the construction of an extraordinary residence 6 Flagstaff road bungalow spread over 40,000 square yards (8 acres). The investigation is expected to investigate whether the government rules were bypassed so that the BJP dubbed the “Sheesmahal”.
On Monday, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva urged Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to cancel the merger of four government properties with 6 Flagstaff Road bungalow.
In a letter to LT Governor Saxena, Mr. Sachdeva alleged that the expansion of the bungalow was done through unauthorized merger of four government properties.
He also announced that once the BJP forms a government in Delhi, the newly elected Chief Minister will not capture the bungalow.
The renovated bungalow served as the official residence of Shri Kejriwal from 2015 to October 2024. He vacated the campus after resigning as the Chief Minister under a intensive political investigation from the BJP, which made a central subject of his election campaign for the 2025 Delhi assembly elections.
The PWD report released in October 2024 highlighted the magnificent renewal and high -end equipment installed in the bungalow. It provided the pilgrimage to the BJP in its campaign against the AAP leadership.
During a political rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an attack on Mr. Kejriwal, stating: “In the last 10 years, Delhi has been plagued with a ‘AAPDA’. AAP landed as a disaster on AAP Delhi. I could make one. I could make one.
Mr. Kejriwal dismissed politically motivated allegations, accusing us of using personal attacks to divert attention from his alleged failures in Delhi.
For more than two years, the BJP continuously targeted Mr. Kejriwal on allegations of corruption and misuse of public money, especially about the grand renovation of the bungalow and extraordinary interiors.
The campaign worked as the BJP ended the AAP rule on the national capital to return to power after 26 years. The BJP won 48 out of 70 assembly seats, AAP won 22 and the Congress made ducks.
