Soon after the claim of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, that the Election Commission has removed the Punjab Police and deployed Gujarat Police in the National Capital Region, the top sources of the Delhi Police have clarified.
Sources said 220 companies of security personnel arrived in Delhi, including CRPF, BSF, SSB, ITBP, CISF and RPF people. Apart from this, 70 companies from Rajasthan, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh Police were also deployed. These companies were received in three phases in Delhi, including the deployment of seven to eight companies of Gujarat Police.
Sources clarified that this deployment has been done after the demand of 250 companies to maintain law and order due to being close to the February 5 assembly elections. These companies will do work like flying squad, interstate border check, area dominance and security at important polling stations. In addition, they will also work as counting centers and quick response teams.
Sources said that the response is being awaited from the Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Police, the protests of farmers are going on in the first two states, while Mahakumbh is going on in Prayagraj.
Mr. Kejriwal questioned the deployment of eight companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) from Gujarat. SRPF, Bhachau Commandant Tejas Patel said on Saturday that according to the order of the Election Commission (EC), SRPF companies reached Delhi on 13 January.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that after the instructions of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission, the state police posted for the safety of Kejriwal has been withdrawn.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi hit back on Kejriwal over the lack of awareness about the criteria of the Election Commission. Sanghvi said in his post, “Now I understood why people call you a fraud. Kejriwal ji, as a former Chief Minister, I wonder you do not know about the criteria of the Election Commission.”
