Shri Vaishnav thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitarman as a gross budgetary support to the Ministry of Railways for allocating Rs 2,52,000 crore for the financial year (FY) 2025-26 – the second consecutive time.

“New trains and modern coaches will go a long way in the service of lower and middle class people,” he said.

This year’s budget mentions the development projects of the infrastructure of the Railways for an order of Rs 4,60,000 crore. Focusing on security, the budget allocates Rs 1,16,000 crore for expenditure to increase the safety of Indian Railways through various projects.

Speaking to the media after the presentation of the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha, the minister said that the budget “wants to generate employment not only through investment, but also gives a big relief to the middle class with low income tax burden”.

The reimbursement of damage on the operation of strategic lines has been kept in budget estimates for Rs 2,739.18 crore as 2025-26 as the revised estimate of the previous financial year as against Rs 2,602.81 crore in 2024-25.

In this financial year, an amount of Rs 706 crore is provided for national projects for national projects.

With this, the net revenue expenditure of Indian Railways has been kept in this year’s budget estimates for Rs 3,02,100 crore, while the revised estimates of the previous financial year are 2,79,000 crore.

This fiscal gross budgetary support is about 9 times in 2013-14 for only Rs 28,174 crore.

Indian Railways is ready to become the second highest freight railway, touching 1.6 billion tonnes of cargo by the end of this financial year.

Among high-speed trains, India aims to support a 7,000 km high-speed rail network supporting a speed of 250 kmph by 2047.

Talking about stability, the Railway Minister mentioned that India would receive 100 percent electrification by the end of Railway FY 2025-26. Apart from this, because the budget announced small modular reactors as a source of non-livelihood energy, Indian Railways will lead to electrification efforts.
