The flood situation in Nagaon district of Assam remains serious, affecting the lives of many people. So far 84 people have died across the state due to floods.
Local resident Rita Sahni and her family members, residents of Jakhalabandha area, have been living in a small temporary tent on an embankment for the last 10 days after flood waters of the Brahmaputra river flooded their house.
Speaking to ANI, Sahni said, “There is still flood water inside our house and we cannot go there. When the flood water entered our house, we could not take out any of the household items “The rains continue. We are facing many problems.”
We have received some food items from the administration. In such a situation, we cannot go out to do any work. We donât know what we will do.â
Rita Sahni, who works as a daily wage labourer, also expressed concern as the rain and flood conditions have kept her away from work. She says, “In such a situation, we cannot go out and do anything. We do not know what we will do.”
Not only Rita Sahni and her family, but many people in the area are also facing similar problems as their houses have been submerged in flood waters and they are forced to live in temporary tents on the embankment.
Another resident M Chauhan also spoke about the same and said, “All the household goods, clothes, everything was destroyed in the flood. We have a family of 15 members and we are living here now. We are facing many problems. have to do.” Flood.”
Kalipada Das, another flood victim, said he does not know when he and his family will be able to return to their home as the entire area has been flooded.
The flood situation has improved slightly in Nagaon district and other parts of the state, but about 14.39 lakh people are still affected.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 79,000 people, including 20,612 children, are still affected by the floods in Nagaon district.
The flood waters inundated 184 villages under six revenue divisions of the district and 18231.8 hectares of crop area were submerged.
This year’s floods have so far claimed 84 lives across the state.
