New Delhi. Delhi Police has arrested more than 100 fraudulent travel agents for allegedly using various tactics to send people from across the country abroad illegally. This number is till June this year. Officials gave this information on Thursday. Officials said that this figure is more than 200 percent compared to the same period last year. This means that the cases of wrongfully sending people abroad have increased by more than double.
Police officials said that these travel agents have been caught from Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and West Bengal. According to the statement issued by Delhi Police, during the same period in the year 2023, 51 agents involved in fraud were caught. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Ranganani said, ‘We have arrested 108 such agents and these arrests have been made across the country. Police have focused on holding agents accountable rather than just focusing on the travelers themselves, as they may fall victim to illegal deportation schemes in search of better opportunities abroad.

The police officer claimed that around 75 Look Out Circulars (LOCs) have been issued against agents who have fled abroad or cannot be traced, to ensure their arrest when they come to India or go out of it. Disclosing about the fraudulent travel agents, the officer said that these agents used to provide fake visas to the travelers which are similar to the genuine visas. Despite their efforts to duplicate genuine visas, the passengers were caught at the immigration check post or at the airline counter, the official said. Even if they succeed in dodging the Indian authorities, they are often stopped at immigration checks in the destination country.
