Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation released its budget for 2025-26 on Tuesday. The amendments made in the previous year’s collections were in the property tax collection made by the civil body.
BMC’s property tax collection was Rs 6,200 crore in FY 2024-25, compared to the previous figure of Rs 5,229.20 crore for this period. It came after several adjustments.
The BMC said that since the implementation of the final decision of the Supreme Court on property tax, the Property Tax Bills for FY 2024 were issued on a protective basis. Financial property tax collection in the financial 2024 was Rs 2,860.60 crore against the annual demand.
In addition, a bill of Rs 6,742.74 crore was released in September 2024, financially for 2025. This meant that by December 31, 2024, the body received a total tax amount of Rs 5,229.20 crore. This included Rs 1,491.36 crore from FY 2024.
In view of this, the revenue received from the assets for the financial 2025 was revised up to Rs 6,200 crore as against an estimate of Rs 4,950 crore for that time.
BMC estimated the collection of Rs 5,200 crore from the property tax for the upcoming financial year.
