Cab drivers boycott the trips to Hyderabad Airport on a low aggregator rental

Hyderabad:

Under the banner of Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union, cab drivers have launched a campaign, boycotting the trips offered by cab aggregator companies to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on the outskirts of the city, protesting against “low rent”.

TGPWU founder-President Sheikh Salauddin said on Tuesday that the campaign has been going on in a big way since it was launched two days ago.

He alleged that aggregator companies claim less than Rs 300-Rs 400 for travel from the city to the airport, claiming 30 percent commission.

He said that the state government issued an order to fix the fare for pre-paid cabs working for Rs 21 per km at the airport in 2022.

He claimed that there is a difference of about Rs 300-rupa 400 rupees between the fare imposed by the aggregators and the pre-paid taxi.

He said that the earnings of drivers in low fares have been greatly affected.

Additionally, cab drivers often have to wait three to four hours at the airport for a return journey, he said.

Salauddin claimed that “the government and the Transport Department for Uniform and Agriculture Services have been repeatedly appealed for the Transport Department”, no decisive action has been taken.

He urged the government to immediately intervene to regulate and standardize the aggregator pricing policies.
