Paris:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that his country would oppose any American tariff on the steel announced by President Donald Trump, saying he said that the “closest allies” of the US would be killed.
Such tariffs would be “completely unjust” and “Canadian, if necessary, will strongly and strongly”, he said during a conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Paris.
Trudeau said last month, “Our response would certainly be firm and clear,” Trump said last month that the US would impose a tariff on Steel from Canada, one of the largest steel importers in the United States.
“We are closest to America,” Trudeau said. “We will work with the US administration in the coming weeks to highlight the negative impact on these unacceptable tariff Americans and Canadian people.”
Trump performed well on the promise of slapping 25 percent of tariffs on steel and aluminum imports last month, carrying forward a long -deprived trade war despite warnings from Europe and China.
Trump also indicated that he would focus on applying additional tariffs on automobiles, pharmaceuticals and computer chips.
