Exact date of Chaurchan Puja: Pandit Saurabh Kumar Mishra of Jagannath Temple told that Kalank Chaturthi and Chauth Chand puja will be held on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. According to the Hindu calendar, Chaturthi Chauth will be worshiped on 06 September. Chaturthi Tithi will start at 12:17 pm on 6th September and will continue till 02:13 pm the next day on 07th September. Therefore, Chaturthi Chauth Chand will be worshiped on 6th September only.
Time of worship of Chandradev in Chourchan Puja: On Friday, the time of moon rise and Chauth puja will start at 07:30 pm and Chauth moon worship can be done till 08:16 pm.
Chaurchan Puja Method: Today on Friday, on the day of Chourchan Puja, women will fast on Chourchan Chand. In the evening, after moonrise, they will fill the basket with fruits, dishes and batasha etc. and worship the moon by offering Arghya with raw milk. On this day, Chandradev is worshiped in the evening. Seasonal fruits are packed in baskets and offered to the Moon. It is believed that this fast increases the lifespan of the son and protects him from false stigma.
Importance of Chaurchan Puja: Pandit Chandrashekhar Jha of Sankat Mochan Darbar told that according to mythology, the moon became proud of its beauty and made fun of Lord Ganesha. Then Lord Ganesha got angry and cursed her that her beauty would be lost and gradually the brightness of the moon started decreasing. Along with this, it was also cursed that whoever sees the moon on the Chaturthi Tithi of Bhadrapada Shukla will face false allegations and defamation. Then Chandradev realized his mistake and performed puja to appease Lord Ganesha on the Chaturthi date of Bhadrapada month. After which Ganeshji blessed that whoever will visit Chandradev and worship him on Ganesh Chaturthi. His life will remain spotless. It is said that the tradition of celebrating the festival of Chaurchan Puja also started from this day itself.
