Delhi emergency preparation sees 15 minutes of power blackout in the drill




New Delhi:

In an unprecedented scene on Wednesday evening, a 15 -minute power blackout was seen in many areas of the national capital including the entire Lutyens.

The exercise left the Housing Parliament, India Gate, embassies and major administrative buildings of New Delhi region as part of a nationwide citizen defense mock drill.

Blackout, which took place from 8.15 pm to 8.15 pm, was done by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to follow the situation of the emergency war.

Officials said the move was part of the ‘Operation Abhya’, which was a mega mock drill, which was launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which was after the terrorist attack in Pahgam on 22 April in response to the increasing tension with Pakistan.

An NDMC official said, “All residents are requested to cooperate and tolerate this position, while government offices and diplomatic enclaves participated in practice, hospitals, metro stations, Rashtrapati Bhavan and PMO were excluded from power cuts.

Many iconic markets and public places in Chandni Chowk – Connaught Place, Khan Market and Town Hall – G have dark, briefly staying in areas is usually lit until late night. The visual effect was Stark, which drew the attention of residents and tourists equally.

Officials in Central Delhi confirmed that blackouts were carried out at five major places including Wazirabad, Chandni Chowk and Civic Center. Karol Bagh and parts of Prasad Nagar also participated in the drill.

In North West Delhi, officials said that with a clear instruction to avoid disruption of emergency services, blackouts were done at five recognized places.

According to officials, a blackout was also seen in Madan Kahdar in South -East Delhi, Greater Kailash and a government school in DLF Kings Court apartment.

Officials in East Delhi said that due to rain and the presence of essential service providers, a complete blackout was not possible. However, selected areas participated to ensure symbolic participation in nationwide practice.

Earlier in the day, mock security drills were done by officers at 55 places in the national capital.

However, in short, power cuts in Delhi reminded of the capital’s readiness to respond to high -risk landscapes.
