The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Indian Consulate in Indonesia to ensure three Indian citizens to ensure that three Indian citizens were given adequate legal assistance to pursue remedies on the death line in foreign countries.
Justice Sachin Dutta issued a notice on the petition by the spouse of the guilty Indians and directed the Ministry of External Affairs to pursue the case at the diplomatic level.
The court asked the officials to facilitate communication between the culprits and their families in India.
Raju Muthukumaran, Selvadurai Dinakaran and Govindasamy Vimalakandhan, all from Tamil Nadu, allegedly riding in the legend Aquaria cargo vessel of 106 kg Crystal Meth in July 2024.
He was said to have recently been awarded the death penalty for violation of drug law by Tanjung Bali Karimun District Court, Indonesia.
The court ordered, “The Indian Consulate in Indonesia is directed: (i) The required steps to ensure that the guilty Indian citizens are given sufficient legal representation, and to provide proper assistance to them for the purpose of advancing the appellate measures,” the court ordered them.
The court said, “The defendant Ministry of External Affairs, the Union of India also with the Indonesian government to pursue the matter at the diplomatic level, under international conferences or bilateral agreements/s, for the protection of Indian citizens,”.
The petitioners said that the male was a braid winner who worked in a shipping company in Singapore and was a limited means.
He reported that the limit period was very rigid to purify the appellate measures and the expected steps needed to be taken immediately.
As a result, this petition sought directions to the Indian Consulate in a foreign country to provide proper assistance to the convicts of death.
The petition stated that the petitioners received a copy of the Indonesian court verdict on 29 April.
The matter will be heard on 6 May.
