Delhi recorded 57.89 percent of the voters in the assembly elections on Wednesday, in which amid allegations of misconduct by both AAP and BJP, including money distribution and fake voting, which are engaged in an intensive fight to rule the national capital.
When Arvind Kejriwal -led party won 62 seats in 70 seats, while BJP got eight more Congress zero, this polling is about five percent less than the 2020 assembly elections (62.59 percent).
Long queues of voters were seen outside the polling stations in different constituencies since morning, and people were waiting even after the scheduled time of closure at 6 pm.
The exit poll results began to start soon, many of them predicted a win for the BJP on the ruling AAP, while the Congress was yet to suffer from another route.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, 57.89 percent of the votes – 1.56 crore eligible voters are voting till 5 pm. The percentage will increase by updating the data of all 13,766 stations of officers.
An official statement by the ECI said, “All 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi went to the election in a peaceful and festive atmosphere today. Voters were happy with the uninterrupted polling process and facilities at polling stations.” “All the voters in the queue have allowed their vote to cast their vote in the queue at 6 pm in the queue,” the statement said.
Voting booths in the city dubbed themselves with colors and hung the poster of famous celebrities, giving voters a special message to give a sense of a true festival. Such a poster bored Lata Mangeshkar’s image, while many others depicted Paralimpian.
A total of 699 candidates are engaged in a deep fight, which decided whether the AAP comes to power in Delhi for the third consecutive term or the BJP gets a chance to form a government in the national capital after 27 years. The Congress also made all-out efforts to set its foot in city politics.
President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhikar, India’s Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Union Minister S. Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadara, Delhi Chief Minister Atisi and Upmo Arvind Kejri were voters.
After casting his vote at a polling booth in Moti Bagh, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that everyone has worked hard for the smooth conduct of elections.
During the day, the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP involved in an intensive defect game and accused each other of voting in various constituencies.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi told PTI around the afternoon that the polling process was going on “smoothly”. Some EVMs were replaced even during mock poll and actual voting, the CEO said.
A high play was revealed in Seelapur when a BJP leader alleged that some people wearing a burqa were trying to vote. However, the police denied any fake voting in the area. In Kasturba Nagar, police sources said that two people allegedly tried to vote with fraud. He said that he has been caught and he is being questioned.
AAP workers resorted to shouting slogans after the BJP in Cealampur, following allegations of fake voting. The Delhi Police, however, dismissed the allegations of fake voting, and said that there was adequate security deployment in the area, including paramilitary forces personnel.
At the Majnu-Ka-Tila in Delhi, Pakistani Hindu refugees, who got Indian citizenship after the implementation of Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, cast their votes for the first time in India.
First timer, elderly, transgenders and women practiced their franchise enthusiastically in elections to form a new government.
At least six exit elections predicted BJP’s victory, while two said AAP would maintain electricity. A close competition appeared between them in two other elections, which had an edge for the BJP.
AAP national spokesperson Reena Gupta dismissed the exit poll results, saying that the party will form the government again in Delhi and Arvind Kejriwal would continue to become the Chief Minister.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that the party’s victory would be more excellent, so what the exit poll showed.
After casting his vote with his family members, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the people of Delhi to exercise their franchise for “good schools, hospitals and development of the city”.
Arvind Kejriwal, who is contesting from New Delhi seat for the fourth consecutive time, has been placed in a deep competition against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dixit.
Arvind Kejriwal told reporters, “My parents have health issues, but they were very excited about voting since morning.” His wife Sunita Kejriwal and son Pulkit Kejriwal also went to the polling station with him.
Hopefully people will vote for “who do the work”, Arvind Kejriwal said. His wife Sunita Kejriwal said that people are “very intelligent” and will make the right choice.
“They will not tolerate hooliganism,” he said.
The BJP is giving an aggressive push to recover Delhi after more than 25 years, with its campaign focus on issues such as corruption, governance failures and law and order.
