Drum mills achieve kilogram-scale ibuprofen synthesis with green technology

For the first time, researchers used drum mills to produce kilograms of ibuprofen-nicotinamide, a formulation that improves therapeutic efficacy and stability. It is part of the European project IMPACTIVE, which focuses on studying mechanochemical methods to make pharma manufacturing more sustainable, reducing both carbon emissions and chemical waste. Now, the team has produced more than 3 kg of racemic ibuprofen-nicotinamide co-crystals, marking the beginning of the use of this green technology for large-scale synthesis.
