Durga Pooja 2024: Every year Durga Puja starts from Mahalaya. In Hindu religion, Mahalaya is celebrated on the new moon date of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This is the last day of Shraddha Paksha. On this day, Sarvapitri Amavasya is celebrated and Tarpan and Shraddha is performed for all the dead ancestors of the house. In Sanskrit, Mahalaya is made up of two words. Maha and Aalaya. Which means the great abode of the Goddess. On this day Maa Durga arrives on earth. Mahalaya 2024: According to Drik Panchang, Amavasya date of Ashwin month is falling on 02 October. Mahalaya will be celebrated on this day only. This year, during Shardiya Navratri, Goddess Bhagwati will come riding on a doli and will depart on an elephant.
Navratri 2024 calendar: This year Sharadiya Navratri will last for nine days. During the nine days of Navratri, nine different forms of Goddess Bhagwati including Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kalratri, Maa Mahagauri, Maa Siddhidatri are worshipped.
