Older pieces of bread can be converted into an accurate size electrode using water and heat. Bread-based ingredients can change metal electrodes in devices while reducing hundreds of tonnes of bread daily.

“Bread contains all kinds of goods, such as starch, protein and water,” says David Bujdos At the University of Pennsylvania. “You can actually heat it at a really high temperature without oxygen and you can get the carbon backbone out of it.”
