Elon Musk gets closer to Starlink approval, ‘letter of intent’ becomes: report

Taking a step towards approving the Starlink, the Center has issued a letter to the Elon Musk -owned satell internet service provider, according to a report by the news agency PTI.

The Starlink developed by Spacex, using satellite techniques provides high speed, low-oppression broadband internet worldwide.

Sources told PTI that the Telecom Department (DOT) has issued a letter to Starlink. Similar letters were previously released to YouTelst Oneweb and Jio Satellite Communications.

In March, Union Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav posted a welcome message for Starlink on social media and then removed it.

“Welcome to Starlink, India! The remote area will be useful for railway projects,” the minister posted on X.

Earlier, Airtel and Jio, which are India’s largest telecom operator and internet service providers, signed deals with Starlinks to offer their satellite-based broadband internet services, but the agreement was received from the Center to operate Sri Musk’s company in the country.

Starlink was trying to enter the Indian market since 2022 and both Airtel and Jio had initially opposed its entry.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met a delegation from Starlink last month.

Posted on X after the meeting, “Discussions covered Starlink’s state -of -the -art technology forum, their current participation and future investment plans.”
