After leaving the captaincy, Wanindu Hasaranga has said that as a player, I will always do good for Sri Lanka. I will support the team and the next captain and stand with them. Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed that he will continue with the team as a player.
Wanindu Hasaranga got the responsibility of captaincy after Dasun Shanaka. But after the poor performance of the team, he suddenly took this big decision. Now the biggest question before the Sri Lankan cricket team is who will be the new captain in their place. Recently Sanath Jayasuriya became the coach of Sri Lankan team.

Wanindu Hasaranga is the highest wicket taker for Sri Lanka in T20 International cricket. So far, he has taken 110 wickets in 68 T20 International matches for the Sri Lankan team. Apart from this, he has 84 wickets in his name in ODIs. At the same time, he has taken only four wickets in the test.
Sri Lanka won 6 T20I matches under the captaincy of Hasaranga.
Wanindu Hasaranga captained Sri Lanka in 10 T20I matches, out of which the team won 6. At the same time, it has faced defeat in four matches. He became the captain of the team only in the year 2024.
