“Exceptional sports, extraordinary results”: PM Modi wins on India’s Champions Trophy

India held its nerve and defeated New Zealand in a game that went just below the wire, winning the Champions Trophy for the third time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation to congratulate Team India, called it “extraordinary sports, extraordinary results”.

PM Modi posted on X, “An extraordinary game and an extraordinary result to bring home the ICC Champions Trophy! Our cricket team is proud. He has performed brilliantly through the tournament. Our team performed brilliantly for a brilliant performance.”

Chasing 252 to win, India started rapidly through the first half century of its captain Rohit Sharma’s tournament, before KL Rahul hit an unbeaten 34, which helped in the final win with six balls in the finals in Dubai.

India added its trophies to move to Australia in 2002 and 2013, which have two titles.

World number one ODI team, India, ended unbeaten in the eight countries played in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

In a spin battle on a dull Dubai pitch, New Zealand bowlers with Rohit and Shreyas Iyer put India in trouble at 203–5, who hit 48 back to the pavilion.

But Rahul remained calm and with Hardik Pandya (18) and victorious Jadeja, who killed the boundary of victory, stepped the team to a large extent to make a loud cheers from the Indian crowd in the blue sea.

New Zealand recalled the Spearhead Mat Henry of his speed after being out of the final due to a shoulder injury.

Ken Williamson could not come to the field even after the 11 batting attempts due to the quad strain.

India played all their matches at Dubai International Stadium after refusing to visit Pakistan’s host due to political tension.
