Police said on Wednesday that a hotel businessman, who escaped after jumping from the first floor of a building here, protesting the alleged sexual harassment attempt of a female employee.
The accused, identified as Devdas, was nominated by Mukkam police from Kunamkulam during a bus visit on Tuesday night.
A source said the investigators received a tip-off about his movements, and a team of police personnel chased him and caught him after stopping the middle of the bus.
He was brought to Mukkam police station in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to police, Devdas, who runs a medium hotel in the district, was accused of going to a room of a female employee at a rented house here on Saturday night.
His companions, Rias and Suresh, who were also with him at the time of the alleged sexual assault attempt, remain largely with him, and a manhunt is going on to catch them, the police said.
The shocking incident came to light after the woman, which faced serious injuries from jumping from the first floor of the building to avoid the attack, shared her annoying experience with the police.
From Payyannur in Kannur, the victims attended Devdas -owned hotel a few months ago.
She made a statement that trio in her room when she was watching a video game on her phone, and she had no other way to jump under the building to escape the attack.
After her crying, the neighbor and locals moved to the spot and soon shifted her to a nearby hospital.
Devdas was arrested a day later when the victim’s family released some mobile scenes, which showed a trio attack and showed the woman’s efforts to run away.
The family said on Tuesday that the visual victim’s phone was accidentally recorded as her camera was automatically because she was watching the video game.
Police said the accused was booked under various sections of BNS. The arrest of the owner of the hotel will be registered soon, he said that the victim is currently undergoing treatment at a medical college hospital here. Sources said that he faced fracture in his hip and hand, and his position is still stable.
