Finiman asks private banks to focus on meeting the banking needs of the marginalized


The Finance Ministry on Tuesday asked private banks to lay more emphasis on serving the deprived sections of the society and meeting their banking needs.

This information was given to these banks in a review meeting chaired by Vivek Joshi, Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS) in the capital.

A meeting was held with senior officials of private sector banks to review the progress of financial inclusion schemes.

In the review meeting, Joshi discussed in detail the progress made by private banks in deepening financial inclusion and urged them to increase their participation in financial inclusion schemes.

The financial inclusion schemes reviewed include PM Swanidhi and PM Vishwakarma.

A detailed presentation on the features of Jan SamarthA portal was also created in the meeting. Joshi highlighted the importance of Jan SamarthPortal that presents information on credit-linked schemes of the government on a single platform. The platform improves customer experience and helps banks acquire customers.

During the meeting, Joshi stressed the importance of financial inclusion programs in providing basic financial services to the last mile. He also called upon banks to organize financial literacy camps to create awareness about various financial inclusion schemes public safety The schemes can be spread among different sections of the society.

During the meeting, Joshi highlighted the progress under various financial inclusion schemes including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Reviewed. Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), Stand Up India, PM Street Vendors Self-reliant Fund (PM Swanidhi), PM Vishwakarma, etc.

He also reviewed the progress in opening of bank branches and deployment of banking correspondents in unbanked villages.

Joshi underlined the significant progress made in expanding social protection and deepening financial inclusion in the country through various flagship schemes of the government.
