Social media channels and OTT websites were warned on Thursday to follow the morality code prescribed in the IT Rules (2021) and ensure significant self-regulations, as well as “A” to avoid children consuming improper materials. Apply “Access Control” to the rated material.
The notification of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is a line on the ‘porn’ comments made by podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia during an episode of the stand-up comedy show ‘India’s Got Latent’. The episode under consideration was on YouTube until the government ordered the removal of it.
The notification stated that it received complaints about the spread of porn, obscene and pornographic materials by “online curated content (OTT platform) and some publishers on social media”.
The government stressed that the law requires OTT platforms, which “does not transmit any material that is prohibited by the age-based classification of law (and) content”.
“Further, the rules provide that the self-control body of the OTT platforms will ensure and follow the code of morality by the OTT platforms and ensure,” said the notification.
“In view of the above, it is advisable that OTT platforms are followed by various provisions of the applied laws, and the morality cords prescribed under the IT rules, publishing materials on 2021 platforms, in which the age of the material prescribed under the code of conduct under the code of conduct -Strict adherence to the classification is also included.
The notification also followed a strong question from the Supreme Court this week, as it heard a petition by Shri Allahbadia to club police cases (two, till now), which has been filed against him.
